ZEPP short-term Fellowships

Come do philosophy with us at LMU Munich! We’ll support you in making it possible!

About the fellowships:

The Center for Ethics and Philosophy in Practice (CEPP) at LMU Munich is funding short-term visiting fellowships on a regular basis. The unique purpose of these fellowships is to allow philosophers working in the field of practical philosophy to come to Munich for up to three months and work jointly with us on making longer research stays and extensive collaboration with CEPP possible. While at LMU, we are supporting you in the planning and writing phase of an application to secure your own funding for a research project, which should at least partly be conducted at LMU Munich. While our expertise pertains primarily to German funding agencies and grants (DFG, DAAD, Humboldt-Fellowships), we are happy to assist you with other national or international funding agencies as well.

What we offer:

  • Travel to and from Munich, accommodation, small travel allowance
  • Administrative and content-related support in writing your funding proposal
  • Opportunities to take part in Center and LMU events and interact with philosophers and other academics at LMU

What we are looking for:

  • Practical philosophers who already have a Ph.D. or are in the process of acquiring a Ph.D. and looking to start their next project
  • Intent to work with us on a proposal for your own third-party funding, which should at least partly be conducted at LMU
  • Willingness to actively take part in Center events while at LMU Munich

What we need from you:

  • Short CV
  • Short project description (2-3 pages)

What you may include in the project description:

We are aiming for this process to be as unbureaucratic as possible. The purpose of your project description is just to give us an impression of your research interests, to be followed by a Zoom call to discuss specifics, if we think that it might fit. Thus, if you already have a short outline of a project, just send it along. However, if you are unclear on what to include, here are few suggestions on what you may include:

  • Description of research project (that’s the only thing we definitely need!)
  • Specifics on the funding agency you wish/consider to apply to
  • Information on people you’d be interested to work with while at LMU
  • Information on time frame
  • Funding that is already available / could be used for co-finanzing your research project

Deadline & Submission:

  • The deadline for fellowships in 2023 was April 23. We intend to advertise the next Fellowships in March/April 2024.
  • Submissions should be directed to Marius Baumann at: zepp@lmu.de
